Site Gradient and Firmness

The two important considerations for a successful installation of the VanHome are site gradient and ground firmness.

When installing a VanHome, it must be installed on a flat and firm site. See below requirements, that must be met in order for a VanHome to be Installed.

Site Gradient

The site where the VanHome is being positioned must be reasonably flat so that the VanHome isn't suspended to high off of the ground. Please note that it is recommended that the maximum variance be no more than:

  • Front to back of the VanHome: No more than 300mm fall
  • Side-to-side of the VanHome: No more than 200mm fall

We design the VanHome veranda and stairs to suit a flat site. In which case, if your site is an uneven surface it may mean that our 3-step stairs may not suit.

Ground Firmness

The site where the VanHome is being positioned must be firm, solid ground. The VanHome may not be able to be installed if the site has recently been filled in, dug up or the ground is too soft.

Site Options

See below 3 of the most common type of sites that we install VanHomes on.

1) Grass/Dirt Site:

So long as the grass/dirt is firm, settled and undisturbed, we can install our VanHomes without the requirement of a concrete slab or gravel. This option is the easiest and cheapest way for our customers as there is little to no site prep work to be completed. Simply drive the VanHome into position and install.

✅ Positives:

  • Little to no cost
  • Little to no site prep required

❌ Negatives:

  • Appearance
  • Not being able to use underneath the VanHome for storage - unless the stored items can get dirty

2) Roadbase / Gravel Site:

This option gives you a firmer and more superior surface than a grass site. It also allows you to level out the surface if the ground has slight variations in gradient.

✅ Positives:

  • A cheaper alternative to a concrete slab.
  • Allows a firm flat site for install.
  • Nicer appearance.
  • Decreases the chance of the VanHome going out of level compared to a grass/dirt site.

❌ Negatives:

  • Site prep is required by corresponding with a local landscaper.
  • Approximately an additional $3,000-$6,000 in site preparation compared to a grass/dirt site.

3) Concrete Slab:

This option is the perfect surface to install a VanHome on. This will ensure the site is perfectly flat and firm.

✅ Positives:

  • Appearance
  • Allows a firm flat site for install
  • Maximised storage space underneath the VanHome
  • Ensures little to no chance of the VanHome going out of level

❌ Negatives:

  • Site prep is required by corresponding with a local landscaper
  • Approximately an additional $6,000-$13,000 in site preparation compared to a grass/dirt site.
