Can I hang art on my walls?

There are several ways that you can transform a VanHome into your home. Furniture, styling, and art are all fantastic ways to make a VanHome uniquely yours. We’re going to focus on how to hang items on the walls of your VanHome.

Can I hang items on my walls?

VanHomes are built like traditional homes except instead of using Gyprock, we use an Aluminium Composite Material for our internal wall finish. This material is hard-wearing, easy to clean, and never needs to be painted.

A unique material means that sometimes customers are unsure what they can and can’t do with it when hanging items on walls.

The answer to this question is yes, you can hang items on your walls. We’ve created this helpful guide to assist you with the best practices for hanging items in your VanHome

Lightweight Items

For lightweight items (under 7.2kg), you can use 3M Sticky Hooks to mount art to your walls. Because our walls are powder-coated, you don’t need to worry about the paint coming off with the hook when you decide to remove it. Ensure that you use the correct sticky hooks for your item weight and dimensions and follow the instructions on the Hooks packaging.

An alternative to Stick on Hooks for lightweight items are Hollow Anchor Screws. Hollow Wall Anchors are designed to provide a secure fastening into hollow cavity walls such as plasterboard, Plywood or in this case Aluminum Composite Panels. The body of the anchor remains securely fixed in the wall even if the screw is removed. Hollow Anchor screws can be purchased at your local hardware store.

Heavy Items (over 7.2kg)

Our walls are made of aluminium and steel frames, which can be fastened into by use of screws or bolts. Items such as TV brackets or heavy art/paintings are recommended to be fastened into the frames.

You can find the studs in our walls by using a high-quality stud finder, that can detect metal studs, or can recognise density changes in walls.

How to prepare walls for hanging lightweight items

To prepare your wall for hanging items, you will need a rag and isopropyl alcohol. Don’t use soap or spray and wipe as it can leave behind a slippery residue.

Gently wipe the area that you are intending to place your sticky hook on and allow it to dry, ensure you clean the area well.

Follow the directions on your preferred brand of sticky hook to secure your hook to the wall.

How to prepare walls for hanging heavy items

To hang heavy items on your wall, you will need a drill, a stud finder, and screws suitable for penetrating the metal.

First, you will need to locate the middle of your stud, this can be done by locating either edge of the stud and then measuring to the middle of these two points.

To make it easier, you can drill a pilot hole so that your screw will grab into the stud easier.

Fix your screw, bracket, or item into the wall and ensure it is secured firmly.
